Discovering the True Gift of Christmas: Jesus
In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it's easy to lose sight of what Christmas truly represents. This week, we kicked off our new series, "The Heart of Christmas," with a focus on "The Gift We Long For." While the world around us emphasizes decorations, gifts, and festivities, the true essence of Christmas is found in Jesus Christ. Let's dive into the key points from this week's message and explore how we can find lasting fulfillment in the ultimate gift of Jesus.
What Are You Longing For?
The Desires of Our Hearts
We all have desires, whether they are material like new gadgets or deeper like peace, joy, and a sense of purpose. The story of Ralphie from "A Christmas Story" illustrates this well. Ralphie’s intense longing for a Red Rider BB gun mirrors our own desires for things we believe will bring us happiness. However, the ultimate gift we all truly long for isn't something we can find in a store or under a tree; it's the gift of Jesus, who fulfills every desire and satisfies every longing in our hearts.
The Tension of the Season
Christmas can be a time of joy and togetherness, but it can also bring stress, unmet expectations, and loneliness. We often get caught up in the idea of a perfect Christmas, but the reality is far from it. The good news is that Jesus enters our world in the most humble way, offering a gift that changes everything. He brings true hope, peace, joy, and love, which are the real desires of our hearts.

Finding Fulfillment in Jesus
Delight in the Lord
Psalm 37:4 says, "Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." This verse isn't about getting everything we want; it's about finding joy in our relationship with Jesus. When we delight in the Lord, our desires align with His, and He fulfills our deepest longings in ways that bring lasting joy and ultimate fulfillment.
The Story of Simeon
In Luke 2:25-32, we read about Simeon, a righteous man who had been waiting for the Messiah. When he finally held baby Jesus in his arms, he experienced the fulfillment of all his hopes and the hopes of the nation. Simeon's story reminds us that our true longings are fulfilled in Christ. He is the everlasting gift that never disappoints.

Life Application
Trusting God with Our Desires
Trusting God with our desires can be challenging, but it's essential for finding true fulfillment. Philippians 4:19 assures us that God will supply all our needs from His glorious riches. This Christmas, let's focus on Jesus, the ultimate gift, and trust Him to meet our deepest needs.
Questions to Reflect On
1. What are you truly longing for right now?
2. Have you been trusting God with your desires, or have you been trying to satisfy them on your own?
3. How can you draw near to Jesus this season?
A Challenge for the Week
This week, take time to reflect on your desires and how you can find fulfillment in Jesus. Spend time in prayer, asking God to align your desires with His will. Trust Him to meet your needs and bring lasting joy, peace, and love into your life.
