Sunday Morning Message Recap

Rediscovering Wonder: Finding Childlike Faith in a Complex World

In our fast-paced world, many Christians have lost their sense of wonder and awe in their relationship with God. We've traded marvel for management, and spontaneity for systems. But Jesus calls us to something different - to become like children in our faith.

Why Have We Lost Our Sense of Wonder?

The most critical issue facing Christians today isn't moral decay or social issues - it's dullness. We've lost our ability to be astonished by God. Many believers have unconsciously traded authentic wonder for autopilot faith, where:
  • Worship becomes routine rather than surrender
  • Scripture reading feels like a task instead of an encounter
  • Prayer happens mainly in crisis rather than conversation
  • Church attendance becomes more about obligation than transformation

What Does Jesus Say About Childlike Faith?

In Matthew 18:3, Jesus makes a striking statement: "Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." He wasn't suggesting childish behavior, but rather childlike qualities:
  • Complete dependence on the Father
  • Humble trust
  • Natural curiosity
  • Openness to wonder
  • Willingness to be taught

How Can We Rediscover Wonder?

1. Recognize That Awe is the Right Response to God
We don't need more facts about God - we need more awe of Him. Take time to marvel at His creation and presence in daily life.

2. Look for God's Glory in Creation
The world around us constantly displays God's majesty. From sunrise to thunderstorms, nature proclaims His wonder.

3. Remember Jesus' Radical Nature
Jesus wasn't predictable or boring - He constantly amazed people with His teaching and actions. If your version of Jesus never surprises you, you might be following the wrong version.

4. Let Wonder Lead to Worship
True wonder doesn't end with goosebumps - it leads to surrender and authentic worship.

5. Embrace Childlike Perspective
God reveals Himself not to the most educated or impressive, but to the humble and childlike in heart.

Life Application

This week, challenge yourself to:

  • Pray daily: "God, surprise me today"
  • Document moments of wonder you experience
  • Share with someone how God amazes you
  • Take time to pause and notice God's creation
  • Read scripture with fresh eyes, as if for the first time

Ask yourself:

  • When was the last time I felt truly amazed by God?
  • What has dulled my sense of wonder?
  • How can I cultivate more childlike faith in my daily life?
  • Where have I been trying to manage God instead of marvel at Him?

Remember: Wonder isn't something you grow out of - it's something you're called back to. Don't settle for remembering wonder; rediscover it daily.
